SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: New Bylaws Impacting Development in Shuswap Lake Area
The Western Canada Onsite Wastewater Management Association of BC (WCOWMA-BC) advises that new bylaws impacting construction and development in the Shuswap Lake area as well as Rural Revelstoke and Ranchero/Deep Creek areas were adopted or amended in mid-July.
This means that development within the North Shuswap (Electoral Area F) and the South Shuswap (Electoral Area C), Rural Revelstoke (Electoral Area B) and Ranchero/Deep Creek (Electoral Area D) is now subject to the Development Permit (DP) Guidelines set out in the applicable bylaw(s). DPs are established in the OCP as a tool to help protect the environment and avoid development in hazardous areas, and sets guidelines for the form and character of commercial, industrial, multi-family residential and intensive residential development.
As stakeholders, your Board has been asked to pass this information on to our Members in the Shuswap Zone so you are aware of the changes and development permit requirements when selling property in these areas.

NORTH SHUSWAP: Electoral Area F Official Community Plan -- Bylaw No. 830
Please note that the CSRD adopted the Electoral Area 'F' Official Community Plan Amendment (CSRD) Bylaw No. 830-10 at the July 17, 2014 Board meeting.
Bylaw No. 830-10 designates Lee Creek as a Secondary Settlement Area, adds policy regarding fire suppression, amends Section 13 Development Permits, adds Schedule G (Present and Proposed Parks and Public and Institutional), and other housekeeping amendments. A consolidated version of Bylaw No. 830 will be available soon.

SOUTH SHUSWAP: Electoral Area C Official Community Plan -- Bylaw No. 725
The CSRD recently adopted Electoral Area C (South Shuswap) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 725 at the March 20, 2014 Board Meeting.
The Official Community Plan (OCP) updates and replaces the Electoral Area 'C' South Shuswap Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 700 which had included only some communities within Electoral Area 'C'; the new OCP now covers the entire South Shuswap including the communities of Tappen, Carlin, Skimikin, White Lake, and Sunnybrae.

SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: Doug Huscher Receives 2013 Shuswap REALTORS® Care Award!
Recognized for giving back to his community, Douglas Hubscher of Royal LePage Access Real Estate in Salmon Arm is the 2013 recipient of the REALTORS® Care Award for the Shuswap Zone. The award presentation was made today at the Zone AGM.
Doug has tirelessly donating his time and energy to reducing pain and suffering, and saving lives. An outstanding citizen who always puts the good and safety of his community first, he has been actively involved with the South Shuswap First Responders (SSFR) since its inception to respond to emergency medical situations in the South Shuswap area 13 years ago. Over the years, he has served as president and former training officer. Always “on call” with a “must help” attitude, Doug has personally attended to 133 patients for a variety of medical emergencies (vehicle accidents, heart attacks, falls) since becoming a REALTOR® in 2006.
Longtime volunteer and Salmon Arm fundraiser extraordinaire Jeff Stacer of RE/MAX Shuswap came in a close second. Jeff has played an integral part in the success of many local fundraising events, and continues to generously support and sponsor at least 16 non-profit organizations in the Salmon Arm area. He also provides the use of his Team moving van to various events and associations.
Nominee Brendan Ginter of Revy Realty in Revelstoke is recognized for making significant volunteer contributions to his community -- actively working on the front lines for the local Food Bank, and for Revelstoke Search and Rescue. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Revelstoke Whitewater Park Supporters and Community Connections Revelstoke which provide needed community support services.

Excerpt from the OMREB Bylaws:
1) Replacement Director for President
The Zone from which the President has been elected shall, prior to the March meeting of the Directors, appoint an Active Member as an additional Director from that Zone. Such
appointment shall take place at a duly called meeting of the Zone Executive, or at a special Zone Executive Meeting called expressly for that purpose. If the said Zone fails to appoint an additional Director, the Board of Directors shall appoint a Member of that Zone to serve as the additional Director. The President and Vice-President shall hold office until the next Annual Meeting subject to the provisions of these By-Laws. (Revised 03/09/10)

SHUSWAP ZONE REMINDERS: 2012 Shuswap REALTORS® Care Award Recipient Announced!
Recognized for giving back to her community, Charlotte Hutchinson of RE/MAX at Mara Lake in Sicamous is the recipient of the 2012 REALTORS® Care Award for the Shuswap Zone of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB).
The presentation to Charlotte was made at the Zone Annual General Meeting today (November 29) and Board-wide recognition will occur at OMREB’s Annual General Meeting in March, 2013.
Charlotte is recognized for tirelessly donating her time and energy to many worthwhile causes. An outstanding citizen who always puts the good of her community first, she is actively involved in a number of organizations including serving as a Town Councillor for the District of Sicamous, Board member and Chair for Community Futures Shuswap, past Chair of the Sicamous and District Chamber of Commerce, and a Director for Eagle Valley Seniors Housing. She has spent 10 years on the Board of the Shuswap Emergency Program, and a decade with Board of Directors for the local curling club board.
Tied for second place were two worthy Revelstoke REALTORS® who have made significant contributions to their community -- Raymond Cretelli of RE/MAX Revelstoke Realty, and Brendan Ginter of Royal LePage Revelstoke. Also recognized for their longtime volunteer efforts were nominees Jeff Stacer of RE/MAX Shuswap, and Tara Gallant of Royal LePage Access Real Estate in Salmon Arm.

SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: 2011 Shuswap REALTORS® Care Recipient!
Recognized for giving back to her community, Rochelle Dale of RE/MAX Shuswap is the recipient of the 2011 REALTORS® Care Award for the Shuswap Zone of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB). Her ongoing support for causes in the Salmon Arm area – especially Minor Hockey – exemplifies those REALTORS® who have made long-term contributions to the communities in which they live.
Rochelle has served for many years on the Minor Hockey board. She sat for two years as Treasurer and is now the Risk Manager looking after safety issues, criminal checks, and ongoing credentials. She worked tirelessly last March as part of the host committee for the 2011 Midget Provincial Hockey Championships, which proved to be huge success – not only for Minor Hockey but for the community at large. She has also been a Junior Hockey billet for 10 years, and is a past Chair of her Parent Advisory Committee at Bastion Elementary School.
She was named the 2011 recipient of this prestigious award during a presentation at OMREB’s Annual General Meeting on March 8th. Zone Co-chair Jay Agassiz was in attendance and accepted the award on her behalf.

SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: Fundraising Underway to Support Kara Wagner!
Shuswap Zone Members are advised that fundraising is well underway to support Kara Wagner, the young Sicamous
mother who lost her partner and two children in a house fire on New Years Day.
Your Zone Executive has determined that since fundraisers and events are already in place, the zone will not be
setting up its own account on Kara's behalf. For those Shuswap Zone members interested in supporting Kara, here
are the options available for making donations:
1) An Open Jam and Auction benefit is being planned at the Sicamous Legion for January 20th at 6:00 pm, with many
local businesses already donating prizes and auction items, including a houseboat weekend. Call Brianna LaRoy at 250-804-5836 if you have any items you wish to donate.
2) A Facebook page has been started to “Support Kara Wagner” with more than 2,400 people already voicing their support for the grieving mother. The page uses an app called "FundRazr" to collect funds online from donators, and so far close to $12,750 has been raised towards the $15,000 goal. 3) Donations can also be made at any TD Bank or Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union (SASCU) branch.

SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: Call for 2011 REALTORS® Care Nominations!
To show our pride in the community contributions of the REALTORS® of the Shuswap-Revelstoke area, OMREB's Shuswap Zone Executive is pleased to launch the 5th Annual REALTORS® Care Awards.
The time of year is upon us again to recognize those REALTORS® who go above and beyond their normal duties. Please take time to nominate someone you think is deserving of this award. The winner will be announced and acknowledged at OMREB's Annual General Meeting in March 2012.

Calling all volunteers... Enter your team of 10 people for $250 and raise money for great local charities!
The Corporate Challenge is held over three days September 9th, 14th and 26th. There will be a BBQ and
awards ceremony following the last challenge on September 26th.
Teams will compete in three challenges: Pennies From Heaven, Shopping Cart Challenge and The Amazing Race
Car Rally.

SHUSWAP ZONE NOTICE: 2011 Salmon Arm Childrens' Festival!
Calling all volunteers...
The 2011 Canada Day Salmon Arm Childrens's Festival is looking for volunteers for Friday, July 1st. The Society depends on community support in order to plan a successful festival and is hoping that some of our Shuswap Zone members can help out with the Canada Day festivities.
The Zone has generously donated $500 in the past but is unable to do so again this year. If you are interested in supporting this worthwhile community event, click here for information about the planned activities and entertainment, and 2011 sponsorship and volunteer opportunities.

The 2010 OMREB Shuswap Zone Membership Survey was emailed to Zone Members for their feedback on Zone events. Deadline for responses is 4:00 pm on Friday, September 24, 2010.
Survey results will be announced at the Shuswap Zone AGM in November, 2010. All participants in this online survey (and providing their name and office) will be entered for two prize draws at the AGM.

KINNEXUS CHANGES TO SUB-AREA OF SHUSWAP DIVISION -
Monte Lake/Paxton Valley and Westwold
To address issues surrounding the Common Marketing Area shared by OMREB and the Kamloops & District Real Estate Association (KADREA), the following changes have been made to Kinnexus® in the "Sub-Area" section of the "Shuswap Division" (Zone):
The Monte Lake/Paxton Valley Sub-Area has been reassigned to the "Outside Board Area Division". This Sub-Area lies outside our board boundaries and fully inside the KADREA jurisdiction. As well, Monte Lake is outside the borders of the Common Marketing Area OMREB shares with KADREA. A review is in process concerning whether this Sub-Area will continue to be recognized and used on our new MLS® system, as it currently does not fully meet the criteria for an OMREB Common Market Sub-Area.
An additional Sub-Area, entitled "Westwold", has now been made available in the "Outside Board Area Division". Westwold lies outside our board boundaries within KADREA jurisdiction, and fully meets the criteria for a Sub-Area in our "Outside Board Area Division" because it is inside the Common Marketing Area shared by OMREB and KADREA.

2008 REALTORS® CARE AWARD - Jerry Emmel of Shirley Real Estate
Many REALTORS® give of their time, money and expertise, and this is the second year the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board's Shuswap Zone has recognized the exemplary efforts of its member REALTORS® by awarding annual REALTORS® Care awards.
This year, the Shuswap award went to Jerry Emmel of Shirley Real Estate in Salmon Arm and was presented at OMREB's AGM in March. Click here for information.
